The Wireless Deluxe Alertamat is the world's first and only genuine carpeted fall prevention mat, combining wireless sensor technology with a soft carpeted surface available in five colours for integration with any care home or domestic bedroom floor scheme. When a user steps onto the mat, an immediate wireless alert is transmitted to the Alerta Wall Point Receiver at up to 95 metres range. The carpeted surface is particularly effective in dementia care settings: patients with dementia who retain some visual processing are statistically less likely to notice and purposefully avoid a mat that matches the surrounding floor, improving monitoring compliance compared with high-contrast clinical mats that trigger deliberate stepping-around behaviour.

NICE Guideline NG147 (Falls in Older People) identifies environmental modification and equipment-based monitoring as components of multifactorial falls prevention. The Deluxe Alertamat addresses a specific implementation challenge: patients who retain sufficient cognitive awareness to recognise and avoid standard clinical monitoring mats can circumvent the protection those mats provide. The carpeted format reduces visual contrast and tactile unfamiliarity, improving compliance in both cognitively intact patients who actively avoid obvious sensors and in dementia patients who step unpredictably. CQC Regulation 10 (Dignity and Respect) is supported by the premium appearance: monitoring equipment that blends into the care environment supports the person-centred care ethos that CQC inspectors assess.
Can the Wireless Deluxe Alertamat be vacuumed or steam-cleaned like a standard carpet?
The Wireless Deluxe Alertamat has a genuine carpet surface but contains embedded electronic components that prevent standard carpet cleaning methods such as steam cleaning, shampooing or immersion washing. The surface can be lightly spot-cleaned with a damp cloth and mild cleaning solution, and light vacuuming on a low suction setting can be used to remove surface dust and debris. For thorough cleaning between patient uses, wipe the carpet surface with an appropriate clinical disinfectant wipe compatible with the carpet fibres. The non-slip base can be wiped with a surface disinfectant.
Is the Wireless Deluxe Alertamat a restraint under CQC guidance?
No. CQC guidance and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 Code of Practice define restraint as any action that restricts a person's freedom of movement. The Deluxe Alertamat does not physically restrict movement: the user can step onto, over and off the mat freely at any time. The mat simply generates an alert that enables a carer to respond. Sensor mat monitoring is routinely accepted as a least-restrictive fall prevention intervention in CQC inspection and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards assessments, consistent with the Mental Capacity Act least-restrictive intervention principle.
