The Alerta MoveAssist is a high-performance transfer assist device designed to support safe and dignified seat-to-seat transfers between bed, chair, commode and toilet with minimal carer intervention. With a 200kg capacity, adjustable legs for positioning on different surface heights, swing-away padded seats for comfortable patient positioning, and a secure crossbar for the patient to grip during the standing and pivoting phase, the MoveAssist actively promotes patient participation in the transfer process, reducing carer handling load while preserving patient independence in a fundamental daily living activity.

LOLER 1998 (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations) applies to equipment used in lifting operations involving people in care settings. The Alerta MoveAssist should be subject to thorough examination at suitable intervals - typically every six months - by a competent person, with records maintained under LOLER requirements. The 200kg SWL must not be exceeded, and the equipment should be visually inspected before each use for signs of damage or wear. Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 TILE risk assessment should be completed before the MoveAssist is introduced to a patient's care plan, confirming that the patient has sufficient lower-body strength and cognitive ability to participate in the assisted transfer safely. CQC Regulation 10 (Dignity and Respect) is actively supported by the MoveAssist's design, which positions the patient as an active participant in their own transfer rather than a passive object of carer assistance.
Which patients are suitable for the Alerta MoveAssist, and how is suitability assessed?
The MoveAssist is designed for patients who have sufficient lower-body strength to stand and stabilise themselves but require controlled mechanical assistance to reduce fall risk during the standing and pivoting phase of a seat-to-seat transfer. Suitability should be assessed by an occupational therapist who can evaluate the patient's ability to grip the crossbar, initiate standing from a seated position and maintain standing stability during the pivot, as well as their cognitive ability to follow the carer's instructions during the transfer sequence. The MoveAssist is not appropriate for patients who are fully non-weight-bearing or who lack the cognitive capacity to participate safely in an assisted standing transfer.
How should the Alerta MoveAssist be cleaned between patient uses?
The MoveAssist should be cleaned in accordance with the care setting's infection control policy for patient contact equipment. Hard surfaces including the frame, crossbar and leg components should be wiped with the facility's standard surface disinfectant wipe or spray between uses. The padded seats should be wiped with a disinfectant compatible with the upholstery material - check the manufacturer's guidance for compatible cleaning agents to avoid material degradation. Any cover that cannot be adequately decontaminated should be replaced. For care home and NHS ward environments, the MoveAssist should be included in the ward's equipment cleaning schedule and the cleaning record maintained as part of CQC Regulation 17 (Good Governance) equipment maintenance documentation.
