The Duo Transfer Slide Deluxe is a 150kg capacity transfer board with handgrips at both ends, enabling both straight and angled seated transfers between two surfaces. The angled transfer capability is the key clinical differentiator from standard straight transfer boards: in real-world care home and NHS ward environments, it is not always possible to position two transfer surfaces perfectly parallel, and the Duo's angled transfer capability covers these practical non-linear scenarios without requiring furniture repositioning or patient repositioning before the transfer can begin. The handgrips provide both the patient and carer with a secure reference point during the transfer, improving control of the sliding movement and reducing the board-shifting risk that occurs on non-handgrip boards.

Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require that patient handling equipment reduces injury risk to the lowest reasonably practicable level. The Duo Transfer Slide Deluxe reduces the physical effort of seated patient transfers by providing a low-friction bridge surface across which the patient slides, while the handgrips reduce the carer's need to physically guide the patient's body position during the transfer - the patient can hold the grip and pull themselves across, removing the carer's physical contact requirement for guided transfers. The hygienic construction addresses CQC Regulation 12 (Safe Care and Treatment) by providing a surface that can be wiped clean between patients, while the no-crack, no-splinter material eliminates the surface degradation injury risk that develops in wooden transfer boards over time and creates a documented skin tear risk for patients during transfer.
When is the Duo Transfer Slide Deluxe preferred over the standard Duo Transfer Slide?
The Deluxe version has handgrips at both ends; the standard Duo Transfer Slide (product 641) can be configured with or without handles. Specify the Deluxe where the patient's ability to grip and pull themselves across the board is a key component of the transfer - the handgrips transform the transfer from carer-assisted to patient-initiated, significantly increasing patient independence and reducing carer physical involvement. For patients with limited upper limb strength or hand grip where the handgrips would not be used, the standard Duo Transfer Slide may be adequate at lower cost, as the angled transfer capability is present in both versions.
Can the Duo Transfer Slide Deluxe be used for transfers involving a height difference between the two surfaces?
The Duo Transfer Slide is designed for transfers between surfaces at the same or very similar height. A significant height difference between the two surfaces creates a slope on the transfer board that changes the friction dynamics and can cause an uncontrolled slide acceleration, making it difficult for the patient or carer to control the speed of the transfer. For transfers where a height difference exists, adjust the heights of both surfaces to be equal before positioning the transfer board: most NHS-height adjustable chairs, beds and commodes can be adjusted to match. If the height difference cannot be eliminated, a different transfer method should be used - contact an occupational therapist or moving and handling advisor.
