The Alerta Powerlifter Maxi 175 is the heavy-duty top-capacity manual-legspread model in the Alerta Powerlifter transfer hoist range, providing a 175kg safe working load for hospitals, nursing homes, home care and complex care environments. The TiMotion control system delivers smooth motorised lift with emergency stop, visual and audible battery alerts and dual control capability from the handset or control box. The 360-degree TPR-coated anti-swing spreader bar provides maximum user stability and reduced lateral movement during transfers. Manual legspread adjustment allows the base to be widened for close access around chairs, beds and toilets. Where electric legspread is required, the Maxi 175-E is the upgraded specification.

The Alerta Powerlifter Maxi 175 is subject to LOLER 1998 as equipment used to lift people. LOLER 1998 requires thorough examination every 6 months by a competent person, with written examination reports retained on site and accessible to CQC inspectors under Regulation 12 (Safe Care and Treatment). Patient weight, sling weight and transfer frequency must all be factored into the SWL assessment before specifying any hoist; the 175kg SWL on the Maxi 175 covers a broader patient weight range than the Mini 135 or Midi 150, but the Maxi 175 should not be specified as a substitution for LOLER-compliant documentation. MHOR 1992 is directly addressed through mechanically assisted lifting. All patient slings used with this hoist must be individually assessed, prescribed and matched to the hoist SWL by a competent assessor.
What is the difference between the Maxi 175 and the Maxi 175-E?
The Maxi 175 has a manual legspread system, where the carer manually adjusts the base width by moving the base legs apart or together. The Maxi 175-E has an electric legspread system, controlled via the handset, which adjusts the base width without manual carer effort. Both share the same 175kg SWL, TiMotion control system, 360-degree TPR spreader bar and tool-free disassembly. The electric legspread is particularly beneficial in tight spaces and high-frequency transfer environments where manual legspread adjustment increases carer manual handling burden.
Can the Powerlifter Maxi 175 be used in domestic home care settings?
Yes. The Maxi 175 is compatible with domestic use where door widths, room dimensions and floor surfaces allow safe manoeuvring. The tool-free two-section disassembly supports transport in a vehicle between home visits. LOLER 1998 applies in domestic settings where paid carers use the equipment; the employer or care agency arranges the 6-monthly thorough examination. Room suitability (clearance around the transfer points, floor surface, door width) should be assessed by an OT before the hoist is brought into a domestic setting.
