The Lomond Bed Lifting Pole mounts to the Lomond profiling bed frame and provides a stable, adjustable handle for patients to use when pulling themselves to a sitting position, repositioning up the bed or moving between positions without carer assistance. The adjustable strap allows the handle height and reach to be personalised for each patient so the grip point is positioned where the patient can engage it effectively. The 75kg pull load rating covers the majority of patient repositioning forces in typical care home and residential care scenarios. Fitted to the Lomond frame without tools, the lifting pole complements the Lomond Assisting Lever (which addresses lateral movement and bed entry/exit) for patients requiring in-bed vertical repositioning support.

The Lomond Bed Lifting Pole supports CQC Regulation 10 (Dignity and Respect) by enabling patients to perform in-bed repositioning tasks independently where upper limb strength and grip permit, reducing reliance on carer assistance for routine positional changes. MHOR 1992 (Manual Handling Operations Regulations) exposure for care staff is reduced when patients can independently manage positional changes; the lifting pole creates this independence pathway for in-bed vertical repositioning. The 75kg pull load rating must be observed; where a patient's weight or repositioning force requirement exceeds this limit, an alternative repositioning aid such as a hoist or electric mattress tilting system must be assessed. For patients newly recovering from upper limb procedures or with neuromuscular presentations, an OT assessment is recommended before introducing the lifting pole to confirm safe and appropriate use.
What is the difference between the Lifting Pole and the Assisting Lever?
The Lifting Pole is designed for in-bed vertical repositioning - pulling to a sitting position or repositioning up the bed - where the patient applies a pulling force through the strap and handle. The Assisting Lever is designed for lateral in-bed repositioning and bed entry and exit - gripping a fixed handle at the bedside to control lateral movement or to assist with transitioning from lying to sitting to standing. Both accessories support patient independence but for different types of movement; some patients may benefit from both.
How is the strap adjusted for different patients?
The strap length is adjusted manually to position the handle at the correct height and reach for the individual patient. The adjustment is made with the patient in the bed in the position they would typically start from before using the pole; the handle should be reachable without the patient needing to stretch. Once set for the patient, the strap length should be recorded in the patient's care plan so it can be reset correctly after cleaning or between patient uses. The strap requires no tools to adjust.
